Antialiasing of Environment Maps
نویسنده
چکیده
Environment maps, like texture maps or any other maps consisting of discretely stored data have to be properly filtered, if they are being resampled in the process of rendering an image. For environment maps, this is especially important, as the sampling rate is subject to extreme changes due to the curvature of the reflecting surfaces. However, for the same reason, the antialiasing is especially difficult to perform, as the sampling rate has to be determined for each pixel. We introduce a method to perform this calculation and determine the parameters for anisotropic filtering of the environment map. Instead of the BRDF, we employ roughness pyramids to account for the properties of the reflecting surface. The principles that are used to perform this antialiasing can be applied for antialiasing reflected textures in general e.g. in ray tracing.

Antialiasing with Line Samples
Antialiasing is a necessary component of any high quality renderer. An antialiased image is produced by convolving the scene with an antialiasing filter and sampling the result, or equivalently by solving the antialiasing integral at each pixel. Though methods for analytically computing this integral exist, they require the continuous two-dimensional result of visible-surface computations. Beca...
متن کاملAntialiasing in Raycasting Digital Terrain Models
We may use ray-casting methods to render terrain from digital terrain models. In this paper we enhance a terrain renderer in several ways, including application of antialiasing techniques. Also we examine various aspects of antialiasing in terrain rendering. We summarize surface and color reconstruction models, and discuss several vertical antialiasing techniques, including supersampling and ar...
متن کاملFast Floating Point Line Scan-Conversion and Antialiasing
We present a new method for scan-converting a straight line with antialiasing. A scan-converted straight line may contain many pixel segments of identical shapes. Therefore, instead of scanconverting the whole line step by step, we can scan-convert multiple segments of a line through copying and replicating. We discovered that through shifting and copying we can quickly achieve antialiasing. Wi...
متن کاملKaiser Filter for Antialiasing in Digital Photogrammetry
Image Aliasing is a problem appearing as artifacts in digitally resampled images, which degrades the quality of the image. In digital rectification and texture mapping pixels from an input image are transformed to pixels of an output image. Discrete nature of a digital image causes Aliasing in transformed image. In this paper source of aliasing and theory of antialiasing is described. The neces...
متن کاملMorphological Antialiasing and Topological Reconstruction
Morphological antialiasing is a post-processing approach which does note require additional samples computation. This algorithm acts as a non-linear filter, ill-suited to massively parallel hardware architectures. We redesigned the initial method using multiple passes with, in particular, a new approach to line length computation. We also introduce in the method the notion of topological recons...
